Drawing Leaves and Flowers Structure
Mimusops elengi is a medium-sized evergreen tree found in tropical forests in South Asia, Southeast Asia and northern Australia. This trees give thick shade and flowers emit fragrance. I plant this tree in front of my house.
And here are some sketches of its leaves and one tiny flower:
For the flower, I choose Hibiscus, because I can find it easily in the park next to my house. But the flowers couldn't stand for more than 3 minutes. It kept on bending down and down. So I put a paper stick to help it stand up longer, as it act as a strong stem for the flower haha...
I dissect one of the flower and take some photos of it as soon as I can, competing with the speed of the flower wilt process. The photos becomes my resource in adding the details.

Drawing Nature, Science and Culture: Natural History Illustration
I'm joining this open online course from edX right now:
Drawing natural objects is a kind of art that I like to do in my spare time. It looks like a meditation by observing the details of the objects, absorb its energy and enjoy its beauty. There's no exactly same objects. Each has its own unique appearance.
And this morning, sadly I missed the first drawing submission to be assessed :(
It's my fault that I didn't pay attention to the deadline and note it in my calendar among my zillion to-do-list. Oh well.... I realized about 3 hours after they closed the submission :'(
Here what I drew for the (missed) first drawing submission:

Illustrated Quotes Prints part one
Sometimes the quotes came first and then I create the pictures. But mostly the pictures came first, and then I'll find a quote that convey the subtle message from the picture. That's my process in creating these illustrated quotes.

"Art of Creating Narratives for Picture Books" Workshop
SCBWI Indonesia will hold a children's book writing workshop this Monday April 10th-12th. Before that, they made a Fractured Folktales writing competition with discount workshop tickets for the winners. Winning the third place to join the workshop by Alfredo Santos, Room to Read’s Global Literacy Program Manager for Quality Reading Materials, makes me really flattered. Because although my job is more to illustrating, I have many children's stories in my head to write on. Few of them were published (printed and free ebooks) and the others are queuing in my mind. This is the "sharpen my saw" time!
Thank you SCBWI Indonesia!
